Driven by an insatiable passion for the living world, Matthieu observes, feels, adapts and explores to continuously nurture our vines, helping reveal their very essence.

Nature first

Matthieu loves working in the great outdoors, close to the earth. Hailing from the Val-de-Marne region of France, nature has been his passion for as long as he can remember. He first heard his calling on a three-week holiday in the vineyards of Bergerac, where his love of winemaking began. He then enrolled in agricultural college, earning a post-secondary training diploma in viticulture and oenology,

Experience and winemaker’s instinct

He got his first taste of winegrowing in the Menetou-Salon appellation, in the mid-nineties. He went on to spend almost 15 years in the appellation, starting in the cellar before moving to the vineyards, where he was responsible for converting the vines to organic agriculture. As an enthusiastic supporter of permaculture, this task was particularly close to his heart. He moved to Maison Langlois in 2011 as vineyard manager at Château de Fontaine-Audon, and then to Château de Thauvenay five years later.

“By adopting an intuitive and artisan-based approach to the vineyard, we can reveal its character to the full.” Matthieu Franchini
