Born into a family of Chilean doctors, a career in the Sancerre vineyards was hardly on the cards for young Rodrigo. But by the time he reached his teenage years, he knew his future lay in wine. And life has proved him right.
The best of both worlds
After spending his childhood between Chile and France, his education also gave him an early grounding in multicultural environments. He began by studying for a degree in agricultural engineering, specialising in oenology, in his native country, at one of South America’s oldest universities. Keen to broaden his horizons, he decided to travel to Europe, where he successfully completed a Master’s degree in Vine and Wine Sciences at ENSAM, located between Montpellier and Bordeaux.

Tireless wine traveller
Back in Chile, he joined one of the country’s top wine groups, where, for the next 15 years, he learned to “listen” to wine, moving from one vineyard to the next as he climbed the career ladder, from Oenologist Cellar Manager to Technical Director. A tireless explorer, he travelled to the four corners of the globe, experiencing firsthand the New World’s liberating approach to innovation.
Terroir as a guiding passion
But Rodrigo thrives on a challenge. His ambition had always been to devote himself to the expression of an exceptional appellation and terroirs – even if that meant leaving everything behind and crossing back over the Atlantic. In December 2022, he took over the reins of the Domaine Hubert Brochard site and our wines’ signature, putting his international winegrowing expertise and razor-sharp oenological skills to work. With our whole team behind him, he’s committed to elevating the reputation of Sancerre and our cuvées to new heights.
