Our Terroirs - Hubert Brochard

A rich tapestry of terroirs

The distinctiveness of our wines stems from its broad palette of expressions, unique in the Sancerre region. This variety elevates each assemblage, refining its typicity and bringing out its unique character.

Sancerre:
a complex mosaic

Our extraordinary winemaking region was shaped by a dramatic geological event. Nearly thirty million years ago, the earth shook Sancerre from north to south. The quake was so powerful it opened a fault line in the globe’s crust almost 100 metres deep, churning together the local soils, and laying the groundwork for our wines.

The identity of our wines lies, first and foremost, in the quality, typicity and diversity of our terroirs.”

Our Terroirs - Hubert Brochard

A vineyard beyond compare

Spanning 89 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir spread over eight of the most celebrated Sancerre villages.

They reveal the extraordinarily complex geology found in each of the region’s three principal terroirs:

  • Les Terres de Silex, with our Château de Fontaine-Audon vines
  • Les Terres Blanches, with our Château de Thauvenay vines
  • Les Terres de Caillottes, with our Chavignol vines

Amigny, Chavignol, Ménétréol, Saint-Gemme-en-Sancerrois, Saint-Satur, Sancerre, Thauvenay and Verdigny – our vineyards perfectly reflect their appellation.

The echo of legendary parcels

The harsh, magnetic landscape of our rolling vineyards is home to several iconic parcels. They include La Côte des Monts Damnés and Le Cul de Beaujeu, which cling to sharply sloping hillsides, some with a gradient as steep as 45 degrees. It takes daring and determination to create just the right conditions to grow their outstanding grapes.
