Revealing the Secrets of our Vines - Hubert Brochard

Revealing the bedrock

of our vineyards

Revealing the secrets locked within the complex geology of our soils, taking a meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach, and protecting nature while intervening as little as possible are the fundamental principles that guide our approach to winemaking. The result? Sancerre wines that embody the essence of their terroir and align with our values of precision, quality and emotion.

Respect through understanding

Rodrigo Zamorano’s first act as director of our Domaine was to carry out new detailed parcel-by-parcel geological studies of our vineyard. Building on this in-depth knowledge, we have adapted our care to the needs and equilibrium of each vine, from plant cover to compost and leaf thinning to green harvesting.

There is one golden rule: you can’t control nature; you can only help it along.
That’s the beauty of our work.”

In-depth expertise, strong convictions

We firmly believe in caring for our ecosystems. Since taking the reins at the Fontaine-Audon vineyards in 2011, one of the principal concerns of our Vineyard manager, Matthieu Franchini, has been to switch away from conventional farming and herbicides in the parcels for which he is responsible. By 2022, Domaine Hubert Brochard had begun transitioning one-third of its land to organic farming methods, with the aim of achieving full organic certification for its entire vineyard by 2030.

Having the courage to explore new horizons

Our teams are always looking for innovative natural solutions to fight wood and grape diseases.

They test, observe and adjust their methods, and then test them again, from pruning to taking a more systematic approach to disbudding.

The Domaine takes the same approach to soil tillage, and began eco-grazing trials in 2023.
