Les Monts Damnés

2022

The name of this enigmatic icon, the Côte des Monts Damnés in Chavignol, is a legend in itself, and a tribute to the foolhardiness of the men who chose to plant their vines here in the 13th century. From pruning to picking, working on these slopes of over 40 degrees demands hard and exclusively manual labour. But it is well worth the effort…

Production

The slopes of the Côte des Monts Damnés rise out of the Chavignol countryside, at the heart of the Sancerre appellation. Our one-hectare parcel is anything but uniform. To bring out its full potential, the Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on this hillside are divided into three distinct areas: the very chalky top, the more marly middle, and the bottom, with its mix of marl and griottes. This attention to detail, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats and ageing in amphorae, liberates the terroir to infuse the wine with its unique signature.

Appearance and taste

Our Les Monts Damnés parcel cuvée enjoys an unmistakable yet enigmatic character. Just when you think you have fully grasped its myriad nuances, it reveals a wealth of surprising new facets. This refined white Sancerre presents a wonderfully mineral nose and a rich mouthfeel characterised by a perfect harmony of liveliness, chalky chewiness and citrus notes.

THE VINTAGE 2022

This was a radiant, sun-kissed year for Sancerre.

Warmth embraced our vines from the early spring, growing in intensity with the arrival of summer. Bathed in sunshine, the grapes fully ripened, presenting a remarkable sugar concentration and aromatic intensity. Our teams began harvesting the grapes at the end of August, rising early to keep the grapes as fresh as possible.
